  68. If you've ever wondered how your SAT scores compare with older or newer
  69. SAT scores, then SATCon, the SAT Score Converter, is for you...
  70.  
  71. Beginning in the fall of 1994 for the PSAT and in 1995 for the regular
  72. SAT-I, the College Board "recentered" the scores for the Scholastic
  73. Assessment Tests. When the current S.A.T. format was adopted in 1941, a
  74. score of 500 was the median score for both Math and Verbal sections.  By
  75. 1994 a variety of causes had made the average Math score 470 and the
  76. average Verbal score between 420 and 430.  The College Board decided to
  77. "recenter" the scoring on the tests, making 500 once again the median
  78. according to standards from 1993 and 1994.
  79.  
  80. The S.A.T. Score Conversion Program, or SATCon for short, will help you
  81. interpret your scores.  Enter the score you want to convert.  Click one
  82. of the four buttons for the type of conversion you want to make, and read
  83. the converted score.  That way you can see how the score fits in with the
  84. scores from other testing times! It may even help you judge whether you
  85. can likely get in to a particular college...

  109. ===== Installation =====================================

  111. First, make sure VBRUN300.DLL is in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Then,
  112. to install SATCon, simply run the program SETUP.EXE whihc comes with
  113. the SATCon file. This can be done by Clicking on the "File" menu and then
  114. the "Run" menu and entering the drive, directory, and program name
  115. "SETUP.EXE." (In Windows 95 follow a similar procedure using "Start" and
  116. "Run.") You may also do this by double-clicking on the SETUP.EXE name
  117. while in File Manager or Windows Explorer.

  119. To run the program, click or double click on the new SATCON icon you just
  120. installed just as you would to run any program.
  121.  
  122. For more details and information on running SATCON and its features,
  123. including PSAT scores, click on "Help" and "Help Commands" to get the
  124. Help file (SATCON.HLP). You may also read the file SATCON.TXT for
  125. similar information if you are not running SATCon.

  128. SATCON may be distributed freely without charge as long as all files are
  129. kept together and are unaltered.  That includes the SATCON.EXE file, this
  130. SATCON.HLP file, the SATCON.TXT file, and any icon files.  Bona fide
  131. shareware dealers may charge a nominal fee for the copying of files.  Any
  132. commercial distribution without permission of the author is prohibited.
  133. That includes any retail sale of shareware or public domain software
  134. except where the shareware concept is clearly understood.

  137. author's PC-compatible SAT study software, Verbal Vanquish and SAT

  145. Like many Windows programs, SATCon needs the file VBRUN300.DLL in order
  146. to run. Put it in your Windows\System directory.  Chances are, you
  147. probably have it.  If not, it is readily available from most on-line
  148. services, bulletin boards, and shareware dealers.  Otherwise, it works as
  149. long as all other files are in the same directory.
